Beverly Hills, California, USA, April 23rd, 2010 – The award-winning musical group Mendes Brothers launches a new album, Porton de Regresso 1 (The Gate of Return 1), in commemoration of the 550th Anniversary of Cape Verde Islands. Porton de Regresso 1 is part of a two album series, paying tribute to Cape Verde’s founding city, Ribera Grande de Santiago (Cidade Velha), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Porton de Regresso 1 will be presented to the public in a series of Album Release events in North America, Africa, Europe, Caribbean and South America. The official kick-off event will be Sunday, April 25th, 2010 at the landmark Cape Verdean restaurant, Cesaria, Boston, MA, and feature as Special Guest, the Hollywood star actor and comedian, Tim Reid of the award-winning television series Sister, Sister, Frank’s Place, and WKRP in Cincinnati. Next the Mendes Brothers will continue their celebratory Album Release tour across the entire United States with events scheduled in the following cities:

Following the U.S. releases, the Mendes Brothers will travel to Cape Verde for a commemorative official album launch at Cidade Velha, Santiago, and continue on to Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Portugal, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, St. Kits and Nevis, etc.


Featuring songs like Porton de Regresso, Mãe Querida Cabo Verde, Cabo Verde Nos Paraíso, Codé de Djarfogo, Deusa de Orion, Bó É and Cabrito Manso, Porton de Regresso 1 is a triumphant message album promoting unity, culture and reconnection with Africa.
Written, composed and produced by the Mendes Brothers, Porton de Regresso 1 is a celebration of Cape Verde’s history and the victorious journey of her people. The album chronicles the archipelago’s central role as the first permanent European settlement in Africa and the cradle of the New World – the model multi-cultural and multiracial society that became the Americas and the Caribbean. A tribute to Ribeira Grande de Santiago, Porton de Regresso 1 is dedicated to the people of Cape Verde and to all people of African descent living in the New World – the Atlantic African Diaspora – in celebration of their mutual triumph over the challenges of the last 550 years.

Part of the proceeds from the sales of Porton de Regresso 1 album release activities will be donated by the Mendes Brothers’ non-profit organization, Music and Life Foundation, to local and international non-profit organizations dedicated to the foundation’s core mission: Promotion of Peace, health, education, poverty eradication and cultural development.
